I am back!

The Townhall.com website has been having some problems (at least I have been having some problems with my blog, seems a bit buggy) but I am back to carry on my blog here. Those of you who aren't familiar with me: I like to write about both sides of the conservative coin: Problems and solutions. One of the big problems with the modern Conservative movement is the apparent willingness of a lot of conservatives to let the Left define the Right. We are not reactionaries. We are serious thinkers as well as serious Christians and Jews or moral non-believers who agree with the Judeao-Christian worldview.

Many social problems can be mitigated if there is a father in the home, providing an example for his children. But that isn't all: He has to guide his children into the paths of righteousness. I am convinced that the real reason why liberalism is so popular today is because peeple would rather have the Government be the parent or gaurdian. People tend to "pass the buck" so they won't be unpopular. The Government, although it was never meant to be a socitial arbiter on that personal of a level, is nevertheless stepping into that role and the future of this country will be that of everyone expecting the Government to be a "cradle to grave" protector. The Government only exists for a few limited reasons but the main one is to dispense justice. Sparta was a tyranny of unwritten laws that governed the people's morals in a military style society, Athens was much closer to us: although they had laws, they could never agree on what the moral foundation of those laws should be. Draco codified the law and the people of Athens soon found that to be far too harsh, Solon recodfied the law but the city fell into disagreement over the interpretation of those laws. Athens eventually settled on a pure democracy of landholders but Athens fell prey to other powers and the lack of comprehension of the part of Athens citizens of the trend history was taking was the main reason for it.

The United States has, early in it's life, chosen to take the road of the Republic. Republics that become too democratic over time fall prey to demagouges; Classical Rome and Medevil Florence stand as examples of this truth. The "citizens" of Classical Rome expected their Emperor to dispense free bread, games and circuses and that eventually led to the greatest human-rights violation in history: The persecution of the Christians. The people foolishy surrendered the benefits of their citizenship for matrial goods! (Unsupriseingly, the Empire was all but dead when Algaric marched on Rome and ended the Empire. The "stone unformed by human hands" had done it's work, many Christians that had been killed (before the faith became legal and official) were the slaves, the labor force of the Empire. So in short, Rome slit it's own throat.) The point is this: A nation whose inhabitants become unemployed and lazy and demand an abnormal amount of goodness from it's Government will soon cease to exist. "Nature abhors a vacum" and in nations like Denmark, where the people have abdicated their responsibilty, Wahhabbi Islam has found fertile ground and is taking over that country.

The problem is clear and here is the solution: Retake personal responsibilty and the rest will follow. Political reform cannot occur without personal and moral reform taking hold in the nation.
